A simple household kit is easier to keep in order than a cupboard full of unfamiliar equipment.
1. See what you already have
Find your torch, radio and useful storage bags. Check their condition and read the instructions. Make a note of which batteries, cables or other accessories they need.
2. Think about your household
Consider who needs to use the equipment, where it will be stored and whether it is easy to carry. Choose items for your circumstances, not a generic checklist.
3. Keep it together
Choose an accessible storage place and tell the people in your household where it is. Follow the manufacturer’s guidance on storage, maintenance and battery care.
4. Use current official advice
